String Quartet: The Klingon Quartet no. 1 was inspired and influenced by a number if factors.  The entire work is an exploration of serialism and atonality.  Though I mainly stick with the 12-tone composition “rules” set forth by Arnold Schoenberg, I do in corporate other strategies including set theory.  The first movement entitled chay? “How Did This Happen” was inspired by the horrifying American election results of November 2016 along with my desire to compose what Klingon Heavy Metal music might sound like having heard a few snippets of Klingon Opera from the Star Trek the Next Generation T.V. show.  Movements 2 Bortas Musha'ghach Je depict inner struggle with coping with vengeance and forgiveness.  The third movement Yay Hegh depicts the King searching for his fallen son amongst the dead bodies after a brutal but costly victory.  The forth movement Lopno' Mi' Je “Celebration and Waltz” includes a waltz section which I think of as “Waltz of the Dead”, and what I imagine the Ancient Klingons might perform after a hard-won battle in hand to hand combat.
